Bethany Christian group plays by means of death of teammate
“When she walks the hallways, you just know when Anna’s about,” said Krysten Parson, the head girls’ basketball coach. “The reality is, she brings a presence that not many people can.”
Anna mentored younger kids and underclassmen teammates, exuding really like regardless.
A transfer student from the UK, Anna Barnard moved to Syracuse, Ind., to reside with grandparents, then moved to a couple of schools just before landing at Bethany Christian within the Fall of 2015. Coach Krysten Parson, “KP,” became Barnard’s host parent although Anna, a soccer star, became one of her athletes.
“She said, ‘I’m going to accomplish (basketball). I may not be great at it, but I’m going to accomplish it, and when I step on that court, I’m going to offer every thing that I’ve,’ and she did that,” mentioned KP.
At Monday’s practice, KP routinely surveyed the court.
“I, a, all of a sudden looked down at the baseline and thought, ‘We’re supposed to have 4 more men and women standing there,’ and I just had to catch myself and go ‘right,'” KP recalled.
Anna died Sunday when the automobile she was riding in slid into an oncoming van on State Road 23, close to St. Pius Church. The car’s driver, 17 year old Carissa Woolace, was released from the hospital Sunday evening. Meanwhile, the six individuals inside the van suffered minor injuries.
“(Anna) was truly my cousin,” said Lehman, the head of college at Bethany Christian. “The story of her life hasn’t always been (easy).”
In line with Lehman, Bernard grew up within a Mother Teresa orphanage in India and was adopted by American parents, who relocated to Europe. In the end, Bernard identified her residence at Bethany Christian.
“She was supportive of all the students, and she was she’ll be missed significantly by the college community,” Lehman added.
Rise up. A point guard around the Bruins’ basketball group, Tessa Clark knew the Tuesday game against Concord wouldn’t be easy.
“(Anna) would have wanted us to come out right here, have entertaining, loosen up, and leave it all out right here on the court. Performing this is much far better than becoming at residence by ourselves,” mentioned Clark.
“We’ve been undertaking it all year collectively,” KP told the group just before tip off. “Let’s rise up. Let’s do it the proper way, okay?”
Prior to the game, fans provided a moment of silence to honor Bernard. Many in the crowd wore her jersey quantity (10) while other individuals sported blue and black ribbons. A spotlight illuminated Anna’s seat, which will be draped in her jersey for the duration of future property games.
